The release of ACF workers will be a hope for the two journalists who are still under abduction

The release of ACF workers will be a hope for the two journalists who are still under abduction.

On Tuesday 11th August were released six people hostages who had been held for nine months and taken into captivity while working in Somalia for Action Contre La Faim. The group was taken captive from an airstrip in the central town of DhusMareb last November.

SOJRA would like to say this is good news in good time and SOJRA believe that the two journalists Amanda Lindhout and Nigel Brennan could be freed as soon as possible during this yea. And Somali journalists started to make direct contacts to the kidnappers including SOJRA.

The local Somali journalists did a joint tusk force committee which will do the negotiations for the case of the two journalists and that tusk force will led by SOJRA in order to confirm the release of the two journalists and SOJRA decided this action after along time meeting between SOJRA executive director and the vice executive director who go back in Mogadishu Somalia last week and the meeting was take place in Nairobi, Kenya.

SOJRA confirmed that ACF paid some money for $ 200,000 thousand (two hundred thousands USD) to cover expenses incurred by the kidnappers.

It’s strongly believed that both the kidnappers and middlemen belong the same clan named Habar-gidir sub=clan Cayr.

The Somali Journalists’ Rights Agency (SOJRA) calls for the international community and the two governments of Canada and Australia to step up their efforts and support these joint tusk force committee of Somali journalists who’s aim is to help their colleagues who are hostages for about 10 months in Somalia.

Somalia has not had a power full government since 1991 and the humanitarian aid workers and journalists are being increasingly targeted in across the country.
