SOJRA worries the Martial Law imposed in Somalia
The Somali Journalists’ Rights Agency (SOJRA) feels fear and possible attacks against the independent media from the policy, government militias and Amisom even though similar cases as happened today has done before by the former transitional government in 2007.
The Somali parliament voted for the imposition of the martial law in 19 th August after the request from the current president Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed. For more details go to;

The imposition of the martial law is meant by exerting extreme pressure on Islamist repel groups and ant peace elements.
SOJRA would likes to give an advice to the government different institutions not to violate the individual’s basic rights and to respect the international law which safeguards the basic human rights for free speech and free expression.
Indeed its an acceptable and the disappointing the incident that happened today against the Alarabia Channel. Today at about 8:00 AM of the local Mogadishu time, the TFG heavily armed police men entered in Alarabia Channel Station in Mogadishu part that TFG controls.
These police men entered the station without prior notice taking all the cameras and other valuable documents. Later on these police men taken four Alarabia reporters even though they were released after hours later on the day but the television still misses the cameras and other documents taken by the police men.
Its widely believed that these police men operates under the commands directed by the police chief commander, General Abdi Hassan Awale Khaybdiid.
SOJRA will highly supports and maintains the positive attitude that bases on keeping of press freedom and the journalists’ rights in across the country and calls for the international community to step up their works and take a close lo ok what is going on the country during the martial law period.
