Hi just registered too... i'll start by letting you about our media environment, Zambia has 1 major tv station which is government owned and has about 5 privately owned TV stations that are trying to make a mark, although only one seems to be doing fine except it only broadcasts in the capital Lusaka. We have three major news papers one privately owned which is the largest, and two government owned, then we have over 8 smaller mostly weekly papers. Radio has grown tremendously as more and more community radio stations grow, and radio has become the major source of information for most Zambians. Now the major problem we seem to be facing is the "junior-isation" in most of the newsrooms. This largely because its cheaper for media organisation to hire untrained young reporters leading to more and more unethical practices. Its not surprising these days to open a newspaper and see leaders being insulted, nude pictures of people, or pictures of the dead etc. Because of some of these practices we are currently debating on legislating the Media Council of Zambia, which is the body that guards whats published in our media. Hope i have answered your question??
